Florida State fans can now exhale

Defending national champ Alabama put the finishing touches on what's considered the consensus top class. Running cheap burberry outlet 2012 back T.J. Yeldon and safety Landon Collins were top players at their position. The rest of the class is sprinkled with performers on both sides of the ball.

Another school, now heading for the sport's premier conference, locked up one of the nation's best players. That star, wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, USA TODAY's offensive player of the year, signed with Missouri, his home-state school, boosting the Tigers' class.

Mizzou is heading next season for the Southeastern Conference, home of the last six national champions.

"It sends a huge message as they go into the SEC that they can recruit with the big boys," said Scout.com recruiting analyst Brandon Huffman. "And it couldn't come at a better time, because he's the caliber of player that they need to compete in the SEC."

Other marquee schools such as Florida State, Texas, Ohio State, Florida and Michigan were not far behind Alabama.

It was particularly good news for the Buckeyes, who were shaken last year by an NCAA investigation that cost coach Jim Tressel his job. But new coach Urban Meyer announced his arrival with a class rated third by Scout and fourth by Rivals.com.

Southern California and Miami (Fla.), which also have been dealing with NCAA issues, similarly did not seem to be affected.

"Probation doesn't matter, sanctions and all that stuff," said Rivals.com analyst Mike Farrell.

But Penn State, buffeted by scandal and the death of coach Joe Paterno, landed what's considered a mediocre class.

Josh Harvey-Clemons, the No. 1-rated linebacker in the country by ESPN.com, announced his decision to attend Georgia on the morning of signing day. By the evening, however, his letter of intent had not arrived in Athens.Burberry scarves, burberry hat, cheap burberry scarf & cap online.

Woodrow Clemons, his grandfather and legal guardian, was refusing to sign off on the decision. The Lowdnes (Valdosta, Ga.) remains firm on his pledge to the Bulldogs, but it could be a while before this one gets sorted out.

And we mean big. Corona Del Sol (Tempe, Ariz.) offensive lineman Andrus Peat, who is listed at 6-foot-7 and 305 pounds picked the Cardinal ahead of his other finalist USC. Later, Kyle Murphy, another five-star lineman, announced he would play at Stanford, too.

That means plenty of support for running back signee Barry Sanders in the near future.

Hours of after Friendship College Academy (Washington, D.C.) defensive lineman Eddie Goldman signed with Florida State, cornerback Ronald Darby of Potomac (Oxon, Md.) did the same, making for two big prizes from the nation's capitol.

Goldman is the No. 7 overall prospect, according to Rivals.com, which considers Darby its No. 2 cornerback.

Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) wide receiver Jordan Payton easily set this year's record for changing one's mind. Payton, listed as the No. 15 wide receiver by Rivals.com and Scout.com, caught 61 passes for 769 yards and 10 touchdowns this past season.

Payton initially committed to Southern California, then announced at the U.S. Army All-America Bowl that he would sign with California. A few weeks ago, he changed his mind to Washington, but on Wednesday, he signed with …. UCLA.

"I'm so disturbed by the whole thing, I don't know how to comment on it," said Oaks Christian coach Bill Redell. "It's absolutely ridiculous. I think the whole college recruiting thing, the NCAA ought to jump in. A kid commits and the other colleges don't pay any attention to it."

Considered the top safety prospect in the country, Landon Collins of Dutchtown (Geismar, La.) also was noticed for his commitment on national television to Alabama that upset his mother. Collins stayed true to his pledge and signed with the Tide to complete another great class by Nick Saban.

USC may be facing their first year of NCAA sanctions that limit the school to just 15 scholarships, but it hasn't hurt the quality of their class. The Trojans lured to big prospects from the state of Florida this afternoon - Defensive lineman Leonard Williams from Mainland (Daytona Beach) and wide receiver Nelson Agholor of Berkley Prep (Tampa).

Agholor was the No. 18-rated prospect by Rivals.com. He averaged more than 11 yards per reception this past season and is also seen as a possible running back or cornerback. In his career at Berkeley Prep, he had 4,732 rushing yards, 921 receiving yards, 12 interceptions and eight kickoff returns for touchdowns.

In one of the big surprises on signing day, wide receiver Deontay Greenberry of Washington Union (Fresno, Calif.) changed his standing commitment to Notre Dame and signed with Houston. The No. 49 prospect was expected to join cousin Tee Shepard in South Bend before making the switch. A big moncler jackets 2011 outlet loss for the Irish, who needed help at wide receiver.

After months of anticipation, Dorial Green-Beckham ended the suspense. The All-USA offensive player of the year is headed to Missouri after making his announcement. A wide receiver, Green-Beckham is considered the No. 1 recruit in the country by Rivals.com. He had considered Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas before announcing for the Tigers, who have to be ecstatic to keep the Hillcrest (Springfield, Mo.) product at home.

Virginia Tech was hoping to close fast with three in-state recruits making decisions early on signing day. The Hokies went 2-for-3 as athlete Joel Caleb of Clover Hill (Midlothian) and linebacker Ken Ekanem of Centreville (Clifton) both will head to Blacksburg. The lone miss was defensive lineman Korren Kirven of Brookville (Lynchburg), the school that produced current starting quarterback Logan Thomas. Kirven signed with Alabama.

Florida State fans can now exhale. Mario Edwards Jr. is officially in the fold. The All-USA defensive player of the year had been a long-time commitment to the Seminoles, but took his time looking at Oklahoma, Texas and LSU late in the recruiting process. In the end, the defensive end from Ryan (Denton, Texas) will follow his dad and play for FSU.

Sammy Watkins of Clemson and Jadeveon Clowney of South Carolina were just two high-rated prospects to make an impact as freshman last season. USA TODAY takes a look at some of the players in this year's moncler jackets recruiting class that could see the field early when the 2012 season rolls around in September.
